Officials are still investigating the cause of the fire Tuesday night at a West Springfield home that led to the death of two dogs.
West Springfield Fire Department responded to a report of a structural fire on Elm St. around 6 p.m. First responders found “heavy fire showing from the 2nd floor rear windows,“ according to the department’s post on social media.
Photos of the aftermath showed melted siding and blackened walls above second-story windows.
“The home suffered heavy fire and smoke damage on the upper floors,” the department’s post said. “No injuries to report, though two dogs did not survive.”
The West Springfield Fire Department and members of the State Police assigned to the state Department of Fire Services are investigating the incident, the post says.
A spokesperson for the Department of Fire Services did not immediately return a request for comment.
