SEEKONK, Mass. (WLNE) — The Seekonk Fire Department said two dogs died from a house fire on April 21.
Just before 1:15, crews received reports of a possible fire on Emily Way.
Upon arrival, firefighters discovered “heavy fire conditions” on all floors at the rear of a home, as well as “rapidly developing fire conditions” on the street side.
Crews requested a second alarm crew and a tanker task force.
Within four to five minutes of the arrival of additional crews, the rear corner of the home collapsed.
The Seekonk Fire Department requested a third alarm response to prevent the fire from expanding to surrounding homes due to “blowing embers and strong wind conditions.”
According to the Seekonk Fire Department, it took about two and a half hours to contain the flames.
The home was destroyed from the fire.
One nearby home sustained damage to the rear deck and gutter and roof line of the home, according to the department. Additionally, another residence had a brush fire within 25 to 50 feet of the home.
The family was not home during the fire, and the two dogs inside passed away.
Fire crews from Attleboro, Rehoboth, Pawtucket, East Providence, Swansea, Warren, Norton, Providence, Raynham, Plainville, North Attleboro, and Berkley provided mutual aid.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
