FRESNO, Calif. — Two dogs are caught on camera mauling a family cat to death on their front yard in a Fresno neighborhood.
Jeanne Adams says she was heartbroken to find out that her cat named Olive had been killed on Tuesday.
“A bad timing for our Olive to be out yesterday morning,” she said.
She says she has been with the family for about 10 years.
She says Olive was an inside cat but would occasionally go through the doggy door and roam around outside.
She found it unusual that she didn’t appear anywhere that morning where they live near Stanford Avenue and Pontiac Way.
“Come find her in my front yard dead,” she said. “Something happened to her. We looked at the ring camera and she’d been mauled by these two dogs.”
She says it could have been prevented if those dogs were caught when people first reported them.
“It’s been going on for a month and a half to two months in our neighborhood and I had no idea,” she said.
She only found that out after posting what had happened on the Nextdoor app.
She says neighbors told her, it wasn’t the first time these dogs were spotted in the area killing other cats.
“I guess I’m the only one with some footage. A lot of people were saying that they had called the cops, they called the animal control, and if there’s no evidence, they’re saying call back when they’re actively attacking,” she said.
She says she made a report to Fresno’s Animal Control but they couldn’t catch them.
With an elementary school around the corner from her house, she worries they will target the kids next.
She says they have witnessed the dogs growl and back at some kids.
She explained, “We literally stood there across the street from these dogs and warned people that came by. I don’t know what else to do.”
She just hopes the city’s animal control catches them before it’s too late again.
Adams says she has another cat.
She won’t be letting him out anymore.
FOX26 News reached out to the City of Fresno for comment and have not heard back.
Adams also lives right on the border of Clovis and Fresno.
There have been several reports made that the dogs have been spotted in Clovis.
We reached out to Clovis Police to see if there were any reports made.
It says last month, it received a report of the same dogs.
According to Clovis Police, a Clovis Animal Control officer was sent out to look for them but couldn’t catch them.
Following that report, it says it got several more calls of what appears to be the same dogs at different intersections:
- Barstow/Locan
- DeWolf/Ashlan
- Near Miramonte Elementary School Sunnyside/Ashlan
Officers say says if you see these dogs, to call your local animal services immediately.
Clovis Police says officers are routinely watching social media posts and have checked out the areas where these dogs have been spotted.
But sometimes, by the time they arrive, the dogs are not there.
It says to call them first before you post on social media so they can respond quickly and hopefully the dogs will still be in the area somewhere.
