49-year-old Doug Russell allegedly used a machete to discipline a dog that had attacked another dog.
ST. CHARLES PARISH, La. — Two Destrehan residents are facing multiple charges of animal cruelty after deputies found emaciated and injured dogs in their home, according to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office.
On Tuesday, St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies and animal control agents say they responded to 214 Murray Hill Drive in Destrehan about animal cruelty allegations.
When deputies arrived at the home, they spoke with 49-year-old Doug Russell and 48-year-old Melissa LeBlanc about the allegations.
Russell allegedly used a machete to discipline a dog that had attacked another dog at the home. The sheriff’s office said Russell “neglected to render aid to the injured dogs.”
Deputies found the machete that they believe was used in the front yard of the home.
When deputies and animal control agents entered the home, they described it as “deplorable.” They found emaciated and injured dogs throughout the house.
The dogs were removed from the home and taken to an Animal Shelter for medical treatment.
Russell was arrested on seven counts of simple animal cruelty, two counts of aggravated animal cruelty, and seven counts of rabies vaccination violations. LeBlanc was arrested on with seven counts of simple animal cruelty and seven counts of rabies vaccination.
Both suspects were booked into the Nelson Coleman Correctional Center where they were booked.
