LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – Two girls used money they raised to buy toys for each dog at the Humane Society for Greater Lafayette.
Sixth graders Ava and Maddie recently held a lemonade stand with the idea to raise money for shelter dogs. From that lemonade stand they were able to raise over $50.
With the money, Ava and Maddie took toys to each dog at the Humane Society for Greater Lafayette.
They picked a day where they went to Dollar General and picked out everything from chew toys to ropes and a variety of tennis balls.
The girls were able to meet some of the dogs in the shelter as they gifted them their toys.
“If you think about their background, their from the streets. Some of them are strays and it’s sad. You don’t know what happened to all of them and why they’re here. If any deserve a good life, it’s them,” Ava said. “They just have so much love even if they’re really nervous and scared.”
“They have a lot of energy and they were fun to play with,” Maddie said.
Maddie is encouraging people to help out with one of the humane society’s volunteer programs.
“They have a program here called the Doggy Day Out. I think you should take out a dog because they really deserve to have a fun day out here, instead of just staying in a cage all day.”
The shelter says they are also in need of other donations, such as collars and leashes.
