TRI-CITIES, Wash. – National Rescue Dog Day on May 20 highlights the millions of dogs in shelters waiting for homes. Alfie, a 4-month-old bully mix, is one of them, currently receiving care at the Pit Bull Pen in Tri-Cities.
Alfie was rescued after being listed as “free” on Craigslist and found in dire condition. He was emaciated, with deep sores and a chewed hind foot. Despite these challenges, Alfie is expected to fully recover, showing affection and a playful spirit.
The Pit Bull Pen, a local rescue, is seeking foster homes to provide dogs like Alfie with a safe place to heal. Elizabeth Norman from the Pit Bull Pen emphasized the importance of fosters.
“Even short-term fostering can be valuable, especially heading into summer…and even if you can only spare a week, that’s incredibly valuable to have that safe place for the dog to go while its regular foster is out of town,” Norman said.
Alfie, who requires continued medical care, is looking for a foster-to-adopt home. Interested individuals can apply to foster or adopt via the Pit Bull Pen website.
For those not ready to adopt, volunteering or donating to the Pit Bull Pen are ways to celebrate National Rescue Dog Day. A meet and greet event with low-cost microchips and vaccines is planned for July.
