Stella, the island dog, and Lizzie, the sports dog, are looking for a new home this summer!
The City of Toronto’s animal shelter is full of dogs in need of a home and staff have created a cute and clever way to show off their personalities.
The city recently launched its DogsTO campaign urging people to adopt its adorable shelter pups.
To help attract potential adopters, city staff have playfully photoshopped some pups at popular tourist attractions in the city, such as at the Toronto Islands and Scotiabank Arena.
“From “Pride Dog” in the Church/Wellesley village, to “Pickleball Dog” at one of the city’s pickleball courts, these adorable photos and stories will warm any animal lover’s heart,” reads a release by the city.
This year, the city has opted to make the campaign more affordable and accessible to prospective owners by reducing the adoption fee to $50 until July 19. The normal cost to adopt a male dog is $185 and $215 for a female dog.
Ten dogs are being featured and shared throughout the campaign, along with a short description of their unique personalities.
For instance, Lizzie is a five-year-old pug/french bulldog mix who is considered the shelter’s “sports dog” due to her love of sporty activities, such as watching Blue Jays games, rooting for the Maple Leafs or watching the Raptors’ summer league. The sports fan also loves her cuddles, playtime and being a great companion.
Meanwhile, 1-year-9-month Labrador Retriever Stella is all about island adventures. She is known as the resident “island dog” because of her dreams to go to the Toronto Islands, staff say. All she’s looking for is a lovely family to accompany her. Stella also enjoys walks to the park, couch cuddles and being smothered by slobbery kisses.
