Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade 2024 in pics

Costumed canines and thousands of onlookers took over Avenue A on Saturday afternoon (10/19) as the Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade returned for its 2024 edition. Like last year, construction in the park moved the event to the street, where the procession ran from 12th St to 7th St, and watchers lined both the outside and inside of the barricades.

There wasn’t a formally judged costume contest this year, but plenty of dogs and their owners went all out with elaborate handmade costumes (Charli XCX at Boiler Room and “Chappug Roan” among them), and there were also the usual assortment of hot dogs, tacos, pumpkins, and cowboys. You can see lots of pictures from the afternoon by Amanda Hatfield below.

The parade has had a rocky few years — last year’s was cancelled and then saved a week later — and its future also seems uncertain. Gothamist talked to Joseph Borduin, the volunteer who’s been organizing it since 2020, and he says after this year, “I’m done. No more.” He added, “I need another, bigger entity to take over this beast because it’s just too much for a small dog park to handle.”

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
