A Toledo man was convicted of breaking into Lucas County Canine Care and Control earlier this month and stealing four dogs.
Maurice Carter, 43, pleaded no contest Monday in Toledo Municipal Court to a reduced charge of attempt to commit an offense. He was found guilty and his sentencing was set for Dec. 2.
Court documents say Carter broke out a window to LC4 around 3:45 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 15 and left with four dogs from the location once inside.
According to LC4, three of the four dogs were located on Nov. 15 in the 1700 block of Belmont Avenue and safely brought back to the facility. Lola, a black and tan German Shepherd with medium-length hair, was still missing as of Nov. 19.

According to a police report, Carter was arrested at the location previously and then returned at least once after to attempt to get a dog he claimed was his.
“The Board of Lucas County Commissioners and the LC4 leadership commend the Canine Control officers who worked to safely secure three of the missing dogs. We also want to thank the public for their show of support and their patience today,” a press release from the Board of Lucas County Commissioners said following the incident.
