To the dogs: Meet the newest four-legged Richmond County law enforcers

The Richmond County Sheriff's Office is getting two new police dogs to staff its K-9 unit round-the-clock for the first time.

The two newest officers at the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office don’t draw salaries, but do enjoy being scratched behind their ears.

The freshly trained police dogs will be sitting and staying Monday for a $22,000 check presentation at RCSO’s Walton Way headquarters. The donation, which pays for the canines, is from the Shield Club of Greater Augusta, a law-enforcement support charity that’s assisted local law agencies for almost 40 years.

The expansion of the RCSO’s K-9 Division aims to provide dogs on-shift around-the-clock, according to the agency.

“These highly trained canines play a vital role in our community by assisting in the search for missing persons, including children and elderly individuals who have wandered off, where time is of the essence,” the RCSO said in a statement. “Additionally, the K-9 units are certified in drug detection, helping us locate and remove dangerous drugs from the streets of Augusta.”

Shield Club President David Alalof will present the ceremonial check to Richmond County Sheriff Eugene Brantley at 2 p.m. Jan. 27.

Anyone who would like to donate to the RCSO’s K-9 Division to assist with food, veterinarian bills or other canine expenses can contact the office’s public information officer by emailing PIO@augustaga.gov.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
