Three dogs bite two people in Roy.

SALT LAKE CITY — Three dogs escaped their fenced yard Monday in Roy, bit two people and encircled both a horse in a pasture and a police officer.

Dogs bite more than 4 million people each year in the United States, hospitalizing 6,000 to 13, 000 victims, according to Wilderness Medical Society

The initial response

Roy police Officer Stuart Hackworth told Dave and Debbie that the attack began Monday about 4 in the afternoon at the Emma Russell Park, 4300 West and 5700 South in Roy.

Hackworth said while police were en route, they received “a couple more” calls of people reporting they had been bitten by one of the dogs. When officers arrived, the dogs had run west into a pasture and surrounded a lone horse.

“Officers immediately observed the dogs circling the horse, being aggressive, and appeared they were going after the horse,” Hackworth said.

When Roy officers attempted to contain the dogs, they began to advance on the officers, he said.

Containment

The dogs then ran into another field where officers heard children playing outside in a nearby neighborhood. The police again tried to contain the dogs.

“It’s reported that one of the dogs circled behind the officer while the other two were coming from the front,” Hackworth said.

That’s when an officer fired a beanbag round from a shotgun, striking the “primary aggressive dog,” he said.

“That dog ran out of the park and ended up running home. The other two dogs were later captured,” Hackworth said.

He added the two victims were drawn into the incident when they spotted a child on the street being menaced by the trio of dogs.

“The child actually did say he was bitten by one of the dogs,” said Hackworth. “With all the commotion and everything, they didn’t get any names, any information. So there may be another victim out there who had been bitten by the dog, but we were not able to locate him.”

According to KSL.com, the dog injured by the beanbag round was taken to animal control for treatment. The two uninjured dogs were taken to the Weber County Animal Shelter where they will be quarantined for 10 days.

What breeds the dogs are, police have not yet said. Two people received medical attention for bites to their lower extremities, police said.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
