NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – The North Myrtle Beach Humane Society hosted its 7th annual Macaroni Mania on Saturday.
Seven restaurants across the Grand Strand fought for the title of best mac and cheese.
Three dogs have been adopted as a result of the event. One went home the same day, followed by two over the next week.
Meghan Pitman, the humane society’s Marketing Manager, says she is grateful this event generates so much help for the shelter.
“It was just such a fun day. It’s always great getting out there with the community, seeing old friends, seeing new friends, and just seeing everyone come together to support our shelter,” said Pitman.
The Humane Society is currently in negotiations with the City of North Myrtle Beach to acquire land for a new shelter. A feasibility study has already been conducted to ease the building process.
Pitman says even with the event’s success, the shelter still needs help.
“Unfortunately, more animals are ending up in shelters, and like I said, their length of stay is increasing. That’s something that we are definitely feeling here at the Humane Society,” said Pitman.
As of now, there is no timeline for when the Humane Society and the city could be done with negotiations.
