Raffia bags have long been a staple summer accessory, found in holiday souvenir shops and retailers alike. But The Row’s takes on this humble item are, by no surprise, more luxurious than the ones you might find in a postcard-lined kiosk in the Med.
The rectangular Oregon tote, for one, is hand-woven from 100 per cent raffia in Italy – available in “natural”, a dark green “jelly” hue and black – with a removable internal leather pouch. Besides the intricate craftsmanship, the only signifier that it’s from The Row is an understated leather label – subtle logos are a brand signature – sewn into the upper.
Then there’s its smaller, curvier counterparts, the Emilie and Estelle (the latter is made from a thicker weave); a canvas-lined raffia bucket bag, named the Sol, and the Mira clutch. While The Row stocks an expansive range of raffia accessories, the brand has also realised several silhouettes – including its popular, portrait-dimensioned N/S Park tote – in tightly-woven lambskin leather.
True to form, the label’s loyal fanbase, who are staunch collectors of cult handbags like the Margaux, have willingly embraced The Row’s summer offering. Zoë Kravitz has been especially enthusiastic: the actor counts the Emilie, Estelle, Oregon and Mira in her arsenal. Kylie Jenner, too, has spent warm, sunny days with the Oregon. Is this the summer version of the Margaux?
