It’s official: 2024 was the year of the mini bag. As our trusted totes turned tiny and spacious shoulder bags were left to gather dust at the back of our wardrobes, we soon had to learn to make some tough decisions about what came along with us when we left the house.
Highly impractical, with some barely fitting as little as keys and lipstick, and offering no chance of keeping your iPhone Max safe — why have these baby bags suddenly captured our hearts? Well, by wearing a mini bag you’re telling the world you do not need to carry a whole load of stuff (no mean feat when you think of how much clutter accumulates at the bottoms of our everyday totes). With a mini bag, you’re saying to the world, “I am an organised minimalist”. As you hold your teeny tiny tote delicately between your fingertips, you’re screaming: “I am only using this bag for decoration”. And kudos to you, because really this is exactly what the luxury houses would have traditionally wanted — an accessory brought along more as a work of art than a practicality.
One thing a mini bag will fit, if you so happen to acquire one, is a mini dog. Although, in some cases, said canine might actually seem gargantuan in comparison to one of these petite designs. In our experiment, we found that it’s probably wise not to try and squeeze even the tiniest of Chihuahuas into a Hermès Mini Kelly, whereas Loewe’s Flamenco purse is the perfect size to cradle a pup. In comparison, a Louis Vuitton Keepall Bandoulière will completely engulf a mini dog — perfectly concealing your pet as you try to sneak it into the office.
