HOLLY TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Michigan State Police are reminding drivers not to attempt to catch dogs loose on freeways after a Boston Terrier was rescued.
At 2:50 p.m. on Friday, April 11, 2025, Michigan State Police troopers were called to I-75 in Holly Township after witnesses reported a dog running on the freeway.
When troopers arrived they found people chasing the dog across open freeway travel lanes with traffic speeding by.
Troopers got the drivers off the freeway and back into their cars before they searched for the dog.
The dog, a 4-year-old Boston Terrier from Holly named Potato, was safely returned to her owner.
Police are reminding drivers not to chase dogs on the freeway, and to instead call 911.
“We know it is a natural instinct to jump out of your car and try to catch a dog on the freeway. The better plan is to call 911 so responders can stop the traffic before someone gets hurt.” said F/Lt. Mike Shaw. “Drivers actually make the situation worse as they may chase the dog into the traffic lanes or even run in front of moving traffic themselves.”
