This Is Our Home: Eden Mills
IN THIS WEEK’S THIS IS OUR HOME, I TRAVELED TO QUIET EDEN MILLS, WHERE ONE MAN HAS FOUND TRANQUILITY, DESPITE HIS PASSION FOR ADVENTURE. áádogs barkingáá DEEP BEHIND THE WOODS IN EDEN HILLS, VERMONT, LIES A CANINE’S FANTASY AND A THRILL SEEKERS DREAM it’s a really nice, nice trail system that we’ve created over the years AFTER 3 DECADES WINNING NATIONAL TITLES IN SKIJORING OR DOG SLEDDING, JIM BLAIR OPENED EDEN DOG SLEDDING And then just getting them to the line, and when they’re on, it’s the best experience when they’re running. You can tell when they’re having it, when it’s their day. WITH 22 ALASKAN HUSKIES ON DECK, JIM PRIDES HIMSELF IN HIS NO-LEASH, FREE RANGE KENNELS TEACHING RIDERS THE IMPORTANCE OF CARING FOR ANIMALS. they enjoy interacting as much as the people do. The guests, too. And, and then we go outside and they get to hitch them to the sled together. So it’s all hands on interaction. They get to see how the dogs, they get to meet the dogs, learn a little bit about their personalities. They all are unique. They all have their own unique personalities. JIM HAS HIS HANDS FULL THROUGHOUT EVERY SEASON. BUT HE SAYS HIS LOCATION ALONG VERMONT’S SNOW BELT GIVES THE DOGS PERFECT CONDITIONS FOR RUNNING Snow comes earlier and stays later. People don’t realize that, when the when you don’t see any snow in the valleys, we still have snow up in the in the mountains. And, that’s that’s the most important part THE DOGS OPERATE IN A PACK MENTALITY, ALLOWING THEM TO GET ALONG AND ENJOY THE WONDERFUL ENVIRONMENT THEY’RE IN – 0210 We have blueberry plants and we pick, 500 pounds of berries every year and freeze them. So every day they get blueberries, which is very healthy. And they’re going to get, a little bit of, protein mix in the blender. BUTTED Yeah. A lot of chicken in there. JIM EVEN LET MY PHOTOGRAHER, JAMES AND I TAKE A RIDE, THROUGH 20 ACRES OF MUDDY WILDERNESS… A TYPICAL VERMONT SPRING. áááon the dog sledáá AND WHILE THESE DOGS COULD KEEP áANYONE BUSY… When,Covid hit and everybody lived, at home, isolated. I wasn’t lonely at all. Because this is just same business as usual. Our daily routine. Right, Pearl? JIM SAYS EVEN IN HIS 70S… HE’S NOT READY TO SLOW DOWN. I’m working 70 hours a week, and if I stop, then that’s it’s over to as much as I don’t like working that many hours. It’s like, if I want to keep going, if I want to just continue. I don’t really have an option. JIM IS HOPING TO WORK WITH LOCAL SCHOOLS TO OFFER TRIPS…FOR KIDS TO GET TO KNOW THE DOGS. IF YOU’D LIKE TO VISIT JIM AND IS
