Third person involved in botched dog neutering in Ephrata Township pleads guilty

The third man charged in a botched dog neutering at a farm in Ephrata Township pleaded guilty Tuesday in Lancaster County Court and was fined $300.

Judge Thomas Sponaugle accepted the plea of Ronald Hehnly, 73, of Lititz, who admitted to one count of neglect of animals, which was lowered from a third-degree misdemeanor to a summary offense as part of a plea deal.

Hehnly was charged for connecting the owner of 2-year-old Hemi, a border collie/blue heeler mix, with a farm on Hahnstown Road, which offered to neuter the dog on the cheap in April 2023.

The owners of the farm, Matthew B. Martin, 46, and John Reiff Martin, 69, were not licensed to perform the surgery, and Hemi required emergency vet care after they did not properly close his surgery site.

The Martins were sentenced to probation in October. Hemi fully recovered after the surgery and is in good health, his owner said in October.

The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
