The Adams County SPCA previously stated 63 Chihuahuas were living in poor conditions, allegedly allowed to roam freely without proper care. They’ve teamed up with several shelters including the Perry County Animal shelter to help get the pets the proper care they need.

Pennsylvania State troopers said the home on the 1300 block of Old Harrisburg Road was filled with feces and urine, making it “impossible to step anywhere without stepping in feces,” according to court documents.

A volunteer with the Perry County shelter, Jason Zimmerman, expressed his joy at witnessing their recovery after he took the dogs in as fosters:

“It’s pretty cool seeing their transformation,” he said. “They’re great dogs, they’re loyal to their owners, you just have to get past the yippee and the barking and that’s all relevant; they’re great dogs.”

Zimmerman shared the names of their new pets, inspired by their love for Mexican cuisine. “It sounds so cute, my wife and I love Mexican fair,” he said. “Chip, queso, and beans are the boys and then the girls are avocado, salsa, and margarita.”

Paula Current, director of the Perry County Animal Rescue, described how far they’ve come. “They came from a home, the windows were boarded. They were just left to roam and they went to the bathroom wherever they wanted to and they never saw anybody else or saw grass,” Current said. “They’re getting handled, and getting worked with.”

Zimmerman emphasized the challenges the dogs faced before their rescue. “You gotta understand, for a year and a half they had to fight their way to stay living and now they don’t know how to act because they get whatever they want,” he said.

The Adams County SPCA has received an overwhelming number of adoption applications and is no longer accepting more at this time.

Six other shelters, including one on Long Island, New York have received the rest of litter. Those interested in helping are encouraged to visit their local shelter and ask about volunteer opportunities.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
