Over a dozen dogs rescued by Worcester police are in need of new homes after they were surrendered to police or picked up off the city’s streets.
“We have a surplus of them now and we’re looking for people to adopt,“ Worcester police spokesperson Joe Cersosimo told MassLive. He added that 15 dogs are up for adoption. ”A lot of people have reached out.”
The department’s Facebook post featured a video of these dogs that officers have rescued in recent months. Since the post went up on Monday, it has received over 106,000 views and 327 people have commented.
“It’s just our way of getting it out there that these dogs need loving homes,” Cersosimo added.
Anyone interested in fostering or adopting is asked to call the Worcester Police Department’s Animal Control unit at 508-799-1211.
In addition, the Worcester Animal Rescue League is at capacity and not taking any additional animals. It is also asking for donations to help feed dogs currently with the shelter.
“WPD Animal Control officers have been buying some of the food for the animals,” a Feb. 26 Facebook post from Worcester police read. “Since there is such a great need, donations are being requested from the public.”
Donations to the shelter can be delivered at the Worcester Animal Rescue League at 138 Holden St.
Donation requests include:
- Purina One dog food (wet or dry)
- Friskies pate
- Blankets or towels
- Laundry detergent/bleach
- Paper towels
