BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — While Valentine’s Day may be over, the MSPCA is promoting a special matchmaking offer for people who want to adopt a pet.
The MSPCA has multiple dogs in need of a home, so they are waiving adoption fees at multiple shelters in the state for dogs ages one and up.

“Waiving the fees says to people in our community: we can’t help more dogs until the dogs [that] are currently in our shelter get adopted,” Corinne Bourgoin, Shelter Adoption Coordinator at MSPCA Boston Adoption Center said.
Bourgoin added that the shelter is seeing a decrease in the number of dogs getting adopted and an increase in the length of time dogs are staying at the shelters.
“We really need our community to step up if they’re thinking about adoption,” she said. Now is the time to help.”
Bourgoin also said that the number of people giving up their dogs these days has increased.
“Our surrenders are up because people feel like they can’t afford their dogs or feeling like they need to downsize or move,” she said. And then for those same reasons people are feeling like they can’t adopt.”
The shelters are waiving adoption fees through February 23.
