‘The most horrible thing’ | 2-year-old boy survives gruesome dog attack, dog’s owner cited

Animal Care Services said in a statement the dog’s owner received two criminal citations for the dog attack earlier this month.

SAN ANTONIO — A gruesome dog attack this month left a 2-year-old boy seriously hurt with 100 stitches in his face. His family said it happened back on November 15 while he was out on an evening walk in his neighborhood on the northeast side.

Animal Care Services said in a statement the dog’s owner was cited for the dog being off his property and for failing to provide proof of the animal’s current rabies vaccinations. They added, the investigation is ongoing.

The dog remains quarantined at ACS. Meanwhile, the young boy named Kreed is home from the hospital recovering.

Tracy Meier is the boy’s grandmother. She said less than a year ago, his father died unexpectedly from a brain tumor.

“It was very sudden, you know and then this happened,” Meier said.

She said it was a large dog who bit her grandson. He was rushed to the hospital and underwent five hours of surgery.

“It’s horrible, like I go to bed at night and I still, that’s all I see, is my grandbaby,” Meier said.

She said he spent four days in the ICU before being transferred to a different unit.

“He had lots of facial issues, they had to pull all his teeth, reconstructed his tongue, he had pallet fractures, nasal bone fractures and I want to say like hundreds of stitches inside and out around his nose and face,” Meier said.

Late last week, he was released from the hospital but has a long road to recovery. For example, he still cannot eat solid foods.

“He will have to endure so much in the future like it’s not over,” Meier said.

Meier said his mother has been by his side the entire time. It has been a nightmare of a situation after losing her husband but she said her daughter is staying strong for her four kids.

She was working two jobs before the incident and won’t be able to go back to work until Kreed can go back to daycare.

“There’s no income coming in because she has to stay home with the babies,” Meier said.

She said Kreed’s resilience is inspiring but does not wish this type of pain on any family.

“That poor baby getting bit by the dog was the most horrible thing I ever had to endure,” Meier said.

The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
