The Skinny: VA Secretary Doug Collins claims cuts to the department are part of a reorganization that won’t impact healthcare access. However, James Weninger, a Charleston Navy Veteran, argues the opposite.
After 14 years of service, with two years in the reserves, Weninger said the VA has provided him with critical care, mental health services and treatment for back injuries. He worries that cutting jobs, whether it be medical, professional, or support staff, will increase wait times, reduce the number of patients that can be seen, and lower the quality of care.

The Skinny: Some folks on Johns Island are concerned about the safety and well-being of 25 dogs in the area.
Dogs were seen in crates, stacked on top of each other on someone’s property. But Charleston County Animal Control claims that there is nothing illegal about this setup.

Animal control investigates dogs on Johns Island property but finds no violations
JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. (WCIV) — Johns Island residents said they’re concerned after seeing over two dozen dogs in kennels Thursday under a tarp on private property, although local authorities have said no ordinances have been broken. According to the neighbors on the scene, 25 dogs were taken from 18 kennels and transported to another location after animal control visited the property. Click here to read more.

Republicans sink their own budget bill full of President’s priorities
WASHINGTON (TNND) — Five House Republicans joined Democrats to sink a budget bill and stall it in committee Friday, temporarily derailing President Trump’s domestic priorities. The bill, known as the “One Big Beautiful Bill act,” spans 1,116 pages and was rejected by the House budget committee on Friday, with a vote of 16 ayes to 21 noes.
