Asprey has a long history with the royals, going all the way back to Queen Victoria, who awarded the brand its first royal warrant in 1862 for her dressing cases, travelling bags, and writing cases.
A royal warrant is a mark of recognition of companies who have regularly supplied goods or services to the Royal Household. Asprey has upheld its royal warrant up until and including the late Queen, with the recognition being extended to its jewelry. Kate has also regularly worn the brand’s earrings and necklaces.
Queen Elizabeth II loaned an ornate Asprey maple leaf brooch to Kate for her visits to Canada in 2011 and 2016. The late Queen inherited the piece from her own mother who inherited it from her grandmother in turn, gifted it by King George VI in 1939 before their own royal tour in Canada.
The Times recently reported on sources that claim Kate is keen to “recognize British skills and industry,” and that she hopes King Charles will soon allow her to issue warrants herself. It’s a major seal of approval for brands. She would become the first Princess of Wales to bestow royal warrants in 115 years. There are currently over 800 royal warrants, and they last for five years and can be extended.
As we begin to see Kate more again in the public eye after a gruelling 2024, she seems to be reaching for reliable pieces deserving of a rewear, and stalwart British labels that provide comfort and familiarity with their history within the firm.
