A rescue pup called Zuri has melted hearts on social media after her owner shared a clip of her seemingly heartbroken reaction to seeing her dad leave the house—which contrasted with that of her brother Zane, who’s been with the couple since he was a puppy.
In the heartwarming clip, shared on TikTok in June, under the username zanethedoberman, Zuri, the Staffy, can be seen staring outside the window at her owner leaving, looking miserable as if she can’t wait for him to be back.
In the meantime, Zane is peacefully sleeping on the couch right beside her, unbothered by his owner leaving, continuing with his nap as if nothing had happened.
A caption shared along with the clip says: “The dog I took off the streets every time my husband leaves the house vs the dogs he raised from eight weeks old.”

Each year 6.3 million pets enter U.S. shelters, which is an average of 17,260 a day, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The number of dogs and cats taken in by pet shelters hit 46,807 during January 2023, an increase of 1,744 compared with January 2022, the 24Pet ‘Shelter Watch Report’ found.
According to the Humane Society of Macomb, based in Michigan, the most common reasons for dog surrenders include age, allergies, behavioral issues, cleanup, cost, moving, new pets and shedding.
Around 920,000 surrendered animals are euthanized every year. Shelters are striving to minimize euthanasia rates by promoting adoption campaigns, spaying and neutering programs and behavior rehabilitation.
The video quickly went viral on social media, getting viewers from across TikTok. It has so far received over 742,100 views and 44,600 likes on the platform.
One user, Karla Nabert, commented: “The Doberman knows he is coming back because he always has the other one does not because someone betrayed that trust.”
Holly said: “Rescues hold onto to the good in their lives because they know what it feels like to be without it.”
SmolPom added: “We rescued a male husky this year. we’ve had him just a little over two months…my heart breaks hearing and watching him on cam when we’re gone..he’s slowly learning we come back but it’s hard.”
