Tears at dog’s reaction to moving day: “Thinks you’re leaving him”

A dog believed he was getting left behind as his owners packed and prepared the house for moving day, bringing viewers to tears.

Moving with your pets can be very stressful. For one thing, their routine might get thrown off for a few days, but all the familiar smells of their house are upended. These sudden changes can be traumatic for dogs, which is what happened to Titus the cane corso.

A September 30 TikTok video posted to the account @titusthegentlegiant showed Titus sitting on his bed with a concerned look. He couldn’t relax as he saw boxes piling up and items getting stashed away. These were signs something was happening and in his mind, it was nothing to his benefit.

The text on the video reads: “When you’re moving and your Cane Corso thinks you’re leaving him.”

His owner tried comforting and reassuring him that he was coming with them, but it wasn’t working. Titus accepted the love and attention. However, his eyes showed how he was truly feeling—hurt and betrayed as his familiar home turned upside down.

The owner wrote in the caption how she felt “so bad he doesn’t know he’s coming.” She stayed with him while her partner started moving boxes from their apartment to the new home, but Titus still felt stressed.

This is common for dogs during moves. To help make it a little more manageable, the American Kennel Club suggested waiting to pack until your dog is out for a walk or taking a nap. Try keeping them occupied with items like a food-stuffed chew toy. You could also set up a playdate during the move so they are in a safe spot, likely reducing their stress.

Newsweek reached out to @titusthegentlegiant via TikTok for additional comment.

With over 4.1 million views on TikTok as of Wednesday, users demanded the owner explain to the poor baby what was happening.

“Put him in a box too so he knows,” said one, while another suggested packing his toys. The owner replied they did but Titus only got mad.

Others shared their similar experiences with moving: “Mine does the same when we move even though I’ve never left her behind before and I’ve had her since she was a month old so like girl why.”

Thankfully, he finally understood when they arrived at their new home that all the stress was for nothing. A follow-up video showed Titus overwhelmed with how much space the new home had in comparison to his old apartment, but as soon as he smelled the familiar scent of his owners’ items, he realized it was home.

The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
