The internet has fallen head over heels for a rescue dog who only barks while she’s sleeping.
A couple welcomed home a rescue dog named Yuki after she was found in a bush with her two puppies. Over time, Yuki began to come out of her shell. They found she has a fun and goofy personality, but with all her character, they noticed she never barked.
That is, until she falls asleep.
In a March 20 TikTok video posted to the account @yukithetinywolf, Yuki was fast asleep while cuddling with her owner. They started filming as Yuki began barking. She lets out a high-pitched bark, sounding almost like a whimper, but her whole body moves as she does it.
Yuki’s owners told Newsweek via TikTok they couldn’t stop laughing the first time they noticed Yuki barked in her sleep, especially since she rarely makes noise. It became a “funny, surreal moment.” They believe she saves all her big emotions for her dreams.
“Yuki never barks when she’s awake, she’s this calm, quiet little presence in our home,” the owners said. “She’s a rescue and the organization described her as ‘gentle soul’ which fits her perfectly since she’s so kind and soft…It just made us fall in love with her even more.”

TikTok viewers couldn’t get over the quiet, whimpering barks Yuki made, calling it “so sweet.” People compared her tiny barks to the sound of a bubble or a “video game jumping noise.”
One commenter joked: “I’m pretty sure she’s collecting points in a video game and she’s winning.”
Why Do Dogs Bark While Sleeping?
Dog owners might have noticed their fur babies twitching, whining or barking while they sleep. An article from Hepper explained that barking while sleeping is common behavior in dogs. It is usually a sign that they are dreaming.
But what could the barks mean?
The article dove into four possible reasons why dogs bark in their sleep. The first being that they might be chasing an animal in their dreams. You might notice that these barks are accompanied by twitching of their legs or whining and growling.
They could be dreaming about treats or food, especially if they usually bark in excitement for eating. Perhaps a protective dog might be barking as they dream about keeping their family safe. The barking while sleeping could also indicate your dog is having a nightmare.
While barking in a dog’s sleep typically indicates they are dreaming, owners should consult with their veterinarian if they think their canine might have a sleep or seizure disorder, the article stated.
