The cutest, furriest football game of the year is almost here, and several players are from California.
Puppy Bowl XXI airs Sunday, showcasing 142 rescue puppies from dozens of shelters both in America and Nicaragua in a match up that sparks lots of “awws,” and maybe, inspire some adoptions.
“Animal Planet’s Puppy Bowl serves as an annual pop culture programming event that continues to expand in reach, awareness and of course, puppies, every year,” Howard Lee, chief creative officer of U.S. Networks and Discovery Networks president, said in a news release. “Win or lose, Puppy Bowl XXI will have the cutest players in the game on Sunday, February 9 and will inspire families across the country to adopt a new furry friend.”
Fans can expect to see segments sharing the backstories of some of the pups as well as segments on adoptable puppies and kittens as they watch Team Ruff and Team Fluff face off when the Puppy Bowl returns for its 21st year.
Which Puppy Bowl players are from California?
Six dogs from California are competing on Team Fluff and Team Ruff, according to a news release. Brother and sister duo Sarge and Penny from Angel City Pit Bulls in Los Angeles are on Team Fluff’s lineup.
Also on Team Fluff is Belle, the golden-haired pup from the Animal Pad in San Diego.
The Team Ruff lineup continues with floppy-eared Callen and Petunia. They are from the Helen Woodward Animal Center in Rancho Santa Fe. They’re joined by fellow Team Ruff player Dee-Bone Samuel from the Sacramento SPCA.
What time is the Puppy Bowl 2025?
The Puppy Bowl XXI airs at 11 a.m. PST on Sunday, Feb. 9. The Puppy Bowl XXI Kickoff starts at 10 a.m. PST, in which 10 puppy prospects will compete to be selected as the top pick in the Puppy Bowl Draft and join the Team Fluff and Team Ruff rosters, according to the news release.
