Teal is back! Sea Dogs to sport classic colors this summer

The Portland Sea Dogs are bringing back a retro look. The team announced Wednesday they will wear their classic teal-colored jerseys every Wednesday during the 2025 season.The Sea Dogs were a Florida Marlins affiliate when they first started play in 1994 and sported a similar color-scheme to their parent club.They became a Boston Red Sox affiliate in 2002 and switched their colors to red and blue, like Boston, but many people have continued to show off the original colors. The Sea Dogs have an entire lineup of retro gear available for sale featuring the teal colors, including hats, shirts, jackets and jerseys.The retro look has nothing to do with top Boston prospect Kyle Teel, who did play 84 games with the Sea Dogs in 2024 before getting called up to Worcester. He batted .298 in Portland with 11 home runs and 60 RBI. He also played nine games in Portland in 2023.The Sea Dogs remain the longest-running professional sports organization in Maine history.In 2023, mascot Slugger the Seadog became the first minor league baseball mascot to be inducted into the Mascot Hall of Fame.On Aug. 29, 2023, the Sea Dogs welcomed their 11 millionth fan to Hadlock Field.Hundreds of players have worn a Sea Dogs uniform over their 30 years, and in 2023, the team released a list of the best players to wear each number.Proving their popularity and brand likeability, the Sea Dogs are frequently listed as one of the top teams in all of minor league baseball for sales of licensed merchandise and the Sea Dogs name and logo is considered one of the most popular in all of professional sports.
