ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – The Anchorage Animal Care and Control (AACC) Tails on Trails program enhances the lives of long stay dogs, one adventure at a time.
“They go for hikes, they can go walk on the beach,” AACC Community Outreach Manager Joel Jorgensen explained. “Or even some of our lazier dogs, they can just go spend a night watching a movie with some family.”
Tails on Trails is similar to checking out a book from a library; After volunteers fill out an application and freshen up their leash technique, they can check out a dog for up to 48 hours.
Jorgensen said AACC has already received about 100 applications since the program launched a few weeks ago.
“It just makes their life so much better while they’re here, helps socialize them. And honestly, it just gets them even more advertising for potential adopters,” he explained. “It’s a win-win for sure.”
