The shelter says it currently has to keep dogs in offices and use temporary crates in hallways.
TACOMA, Wash. — The Humane Society for Tacoma and Pierce County is waiving adoption fees for all dogs over the next few days as it deals with a “crisis” of overcrowding.
Adoption fees will be waived from Nov. 14-17 for all dogs. The shelter says it is currently caring for close to 200 dogs between the shelter and foster homes.
Intake of dogs has increased dramatically, the shelter says, with 400 more dogs entering the shelter in 2024 than by this time in 2023.
Every adoptable dog has undergone a wellness exam and will come with initial vaccinations, microchip, and will be spayed and neutered.
Dogs that are not spayed and neutered yet can be taken home through the foster-to-adopt option, where families can take a dog home and then bring it back for surgery at no additional cost during a designated period.
