A swan has died weeks after it was attacked by a dog in Moray.
The bird was rescued from a pond at Brodie Castle and Estate between Nairn and Forres on 5 February and has since been put to sleep.
It was spotted with a badly-injured neck and the Scottish SPCA said the swan had multiple dog bite wounds.
The charity added the incident served as a reminder of the importance of maintaining control of dogs, especially in areas where wildlife was present.
A statement from the SSPCA said: “While vets battled to operate in time, it was evident that there was far too much damage, and the sad decision was made to end her suffering.
“She was given a course of antibiotics and pain relief but sadly the injuries were too severe for her poor body.”
Anyone who witnesses a dog attack on a swan has been urged to contact the police on the non-emergency 101 number and ask to report the incident to a wildlife crime officer.
