Man arrested after three dogs found dead in abandoned moving van in Boston
A DISTURBING SITUATION IN MATTAPAN. THREE DOGS FOUND DEAD INSIDE OF A U-HAUL. AND RIGHT NOW, POLICE ARE TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHO’S RESPONSIBLE. YEAH, JESSICA, WE’RE LEARNING THROUGH NEIGHBORS THAT THEY BELIEVE THAT THE MAN WHO RENTED THAT U-HAUL VAN LIVES RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER FROM HERE. AND POLICE ALSO DISCOVERING FOOD DOG FOOD INSIDE OF THAT VAN. BUT IT WAS ULTIMATELY THE ULTIMATELY THE HEAT THAT LIKELY KILLED THE DOGS. RIGHT NOW, THREE DOGS ARE DEAD DISCOVERED IN THE BACK OF THIS U-HAUL VAN. NEIGHBORS SAY THE VAN HAD BEEN PARKED THERE FOR MORE THAN A WEEK IN THE SWELTERING HEAT. WE SMELLED SOMETHING REALLY BAD, REALLY, REALLY BAD, LIKE A DEAD BODY, IVES JEFF LARSON LIVES ACROSS THE STREET FROM WHERE THAT VAN WAS PARKED ON EDGEWATER DRIVE IN MATTAPAN. HIS DAUGHTER SAYS SHE SAW A MAN ON MONDAY FRANTICALLY GOING TO GET WATER WITH A FIVE GALLON JUG FROM A NEARBY BUSINESS. IT WAS CAUGHT ON VIDEO. ANOTHER NEIGHBOR SAYS THE MAN TOLD HIM A DOG WAS SUFFERING FROM HEAT STROKE. THEY HAD A LOT OF GALLONS ON THE FLOOR AND THEY WERE PUTTING WATER ON THE DOG AND IT MADE ME. IT LOOKS SUSPICIOUS, SHE SAYS. THAT DOG WAS SHAKING, BUT BY THAT TIME, OTHER NEIGHBORS BELIEVE THE TWO OTHER DOGS WERE DEAD. WHEN I, UH, TAKE A PEEK IN THAT VAN, I SAW A FLYING IN THAT VAN. LIKE MAYBE A THOUSAND FLIES. JEFF LARSON CALLED POLICE WHO CAME AND DISCOVERED THE TRAGIC SCENE. ONE OF THE DOGS WAS ALSO DECEASED INSIDE OF A CRATE. IT MAKES ME FEEL LIKE SAD AND MAD BECAUSE IT’S NOT OKAY TO DO THAT. TO, UM, DOGS. AND THAT’S ANIMAL ABUSE. IT WAS TOWED AS POLICE INVESTIGATE THIS FAMILY LEFT WITH SO MANY QUESTIONS. LET THEM GO. LET THEM OUT AND PEOPLE CAN TAKE THEM, NOT PUT THEM ON A TRUCK RIGHT THERE. AND YOU KNOW, IT’S HOT AND THEY DIE RIGHT THERE. A man has been charged with three counts of animal cruelty after Boston police said three dogs were found dead inside of an abandoned moving van in Mattapan.William Cobb, 33, was arrested in the area of 148 Mediterranean Drive in Weymouth around 12:30 p.m. on Friday.Police discovered three dead pit bull mix medium sized dogs in the van outside a multi-family home at 69 Edgewater Drive just before 9 p.m. on Tuesday. Neighbors say the van was left parked for weeks.People who live in the area said they heard dogs barking on the Fourth of July, but it wasn’t clear both how long the dogs were in the moving truck for and how long they were deceased. Residents of Edgewood Drive said they called 911 twice on Tuesday when the smell coming from the van became unbearable. Police arrived later in the day and made the grim discovery in the van.Cobb is set to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on Friday.
