LAS VEGAS (KVVU/Gray News) – The man accused of throwing a dog into a dumpster in a neighborhood near the North Las Vegas Airport has posted bond, according to court records.
Alexis Flores, 30, was released from the Clark County Jail on Friday morning, less than 24 hours after his arrest.
According to court records, he paid $50 to get out on bond using a bail bond company. The Las Vegas Justice Court confirmed his total bail was $9,000.
Surveillance video from the neighborhood shows a man, allegedly Flores, dangling a chihuahua by his legs before throwing him into the dumpster. The dog was discovered by a neighbor throwing out trash more than 24 hours later. The neighbor called Vegas Pet Rescue Project. They rescued the dog and took it to an animal hospital.
Lindsey Pinapfel, a volunteer with Vegas Pet Rescue Project, said the dog is now safe in a foster home.
“The individual’s brother apparently owns him, but I’ve got questions and I have concerns because this dog was missing for over 24 hours. Where were you looking for him? How would you not know your dog was gone?” Pinapfel said.
Pinapfel said every pet owner needs to know that unwanted pets can be surrendered instead.
“There are rescues and resources for every animal that somebody might potentially own and ways to go about surrendering them… there’s no excuse for animal abuse,” Pinapfel said.
Flores faces three felony animal cruelty charges.
