The internet has been moved to tears after watching a video of a stray dog desperately seeking rescue.
In the clip, the dog, now named Golden, is seen sprinting after Nelly Jimenez’s car and eventually catching up. She stops the car, and the next scene shows him sitting in the front seat.
The text overlaid on Jimenez’ TikTok video (@nellyvictoriajimenez) reads: “This is Golden, the lonely stray dog that would follow me everywhere. He stole my heart, and I rescued him. But honestly, he rescued me.”
The video concludes with a heart-warming scene of Golden peacefully sleeping in his new home next to another dog, amassing over 154,000 views.
At the time of writing, the video has 20,500 likes and numerous comments from users thanking Jimenez for rescuing him.
According to People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), an estimated 70 million homeless dogs and cats struggle to survive in the United States. These animals face countless dangers on the streets, including the risk of being hit by cars, attacked by other animals, or subjected to human cruelty.
They often contract and spread contagious diseases, suffering and dying as a result. Untreated infections can turn fatal, and parasites, both internal and external, slowly deteriorate their health.
Weather poses another threat to stray animals. PETA explains that in winter, the puddles they rely on for water may freeze over, and when accessible, these sources are often contaminated with motor oil, pesticides, and other harmful substances.
Stray animals are also at risk of suffering from heat exhaustion during scorching summers. Their lives are marked by constant fear and discomfort, often cut tragically short.
It is unclear how Golden ended up in Jimenez’s care, but she reassured another user in the comments that “he is safe now.”
Other users have noticed Golden’s transformation, with one commenter stating: “His little smile of success when he was laying on the bed was priceless.”
Another user added: “He knew you were the one,” to which Jimenez responded: “He definitely is my soul dog.”
A fourth commenter wrote: “[I don’t know] why, but once a stray is adopted off the street and nursed back to good health, they show deep appreciation to you. It’s like they know.” Jimenez agreed wholeheartedly.
Newsweek reached out to @nellyvictoriajimenez for comment via TikTok. We could not verify the details of the case.
