Two dogs were rescued from a hiking trail in Black Canyon City after being missing for four days.

On April 25, a hiker found the dogs about 1.5 miles from the trailhead at the Black Canyon City Trail, according to a Facebook post from Daisy Mountain Fire and Medical. The dogs, named Spike and Snickers, “never left each other’s side,” the post said. “Thankfully, a kind hiker spotted them…bringing their long wait to a happy end.”

It appears that a public Facebook group played a role in aiding the dog rescue.

On April 21, Kathleen Paulson Wesley shared in the Facebook group “Lost & Found Pets of Black Canyon City” that Spike and Snickers had gone missing and that she was “desperately trying to find them.”

On the morning April 25, Steve Eisenreich found the dogs at the river bottom at the Black Canyon City Trail while hiking with his own dogs. He immediately recognized them from the Facebook page, he said.

Eisenreich then gave the dogs water, contacted the owner’s family friend, and reached out to the Daisy Mountain Fire Department. He carried Spike, who, according to Wesley, weighs 96 pounds and was exhausted, on his back using a dog rescue sling until he met Daisy Mountain firefighters about halfway back to the trailhead. Along the way, he was assisted by Conrad Begaye, whom he met on the trail.

After Spike and Snickers had been rescued, Wesley said in a Facebook post that the dogs were “tired and a bit weak” but were eating and drinking and would be fine “in a day or so.”

“Such an incredible relief to have my boys back home where they belong,” Wesley wrote. “It is because of FB sharing the missing dogs post, and people being on the alert and willing to help others.”

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
