If you are looking to add a furry friend to your home in the new year, several dogs are available for adoption at Friends of the Animals Baton Rouge.
All dogs at FOTA BR are spayed/neutered, up to date on vaccinations and microchipped. Several different breeds and sizes of dogs are available for immediate adoption. Here are two that have arrived at FOTA BR this month.
Mia is a one-year-old, 40-pound pup whose blue eyes make her stand out. She is housetrained, spayed and microchipped. Mia is great with other dogs and is approved for group play at Camp Bow Wow, so she loves interaction!
Cassie is a female beagle who is new to FOTA BR. She is estimated to be four years old and weighs 33 pounds. She is spayed, microchipped, vaccinated and has tested negative for heartworm. In her foster home, Cassie is friendly with multiple cats and plays well with the resident male beagle. She is not a chewer, has had no accidents and likes a bit of snuggle time.
Numerous studies show that having a dog has numerous health benefits for owners. These benefits include more frequent exercise, lower blood pressure, less stress, anxiety and depression; more social interaction, and mental stimulation that comes from having a structured care and activity routine for the dog each day.
Besides Mia and Cassie, FOTA BR has many other dogs available for adoption and transports other dogs from the shelter to fill any open kennels available in its Adoption House each day. This gives the shelter dogs time to spend a fun visit in a new environment, plus you never know when their new owner will walk through the door!
The FOTA BR Adoption House is located at 8476 Highland Road in Baton Rouge and is open from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays, and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. If you are interested in meeting a specific dog, call or send a message beforehand to ensure the dog will be at the Adoption House that day. The Adoption House can be reached by phone at 225-239-7368 or via email at friendsoftheanimalsbr@gmail.com. If you are interested in adopting a FOTA pup and currently own a dog, you are encouraged to bring your vet records with you to expedite the application process.
