There’s a new take-out restaurant on South Padre Island and it aims to bring out the kid in you. Who doesn’t like a certain type of hotdog that will make us nostalgic for home or some other place that had the best warm, juicy hot dogs? If your mouth is already watering just thinking about it, then we have the place for you, and it just opened a few weeks ago.

Just like the war between New York and Chicago style pizza, the same could be said for how people like their particular dog dressed, and Starnie’s tries to cover the bases of the major regional styles of serving up the irrepressible hot dog and other related fare. There’s Chicago style, a Cincinnati style chili dog, Polish Sausage and an Italian style Hot Beef Sandwich.

Starnie’s Hot Dogs Menu has 100% all-beef hot dogs served on a steamed poppy seed bun, unless otherwise indicated. Their attention to quality is evident in their choice of the Vienna hot dog brand.

The curious name is the blending of Arnie and his brothers’ names—Steve and Arnie from when they opened up several businesses together back in the day. The owners of this Starnie’s, Arnie Creinin and Joshua Sturgeon, hail from Chicago and Cincinnati. Hence the two main hot dog styles at Starnie’s.

Menu:
Chicago style hot dog: mustard, onion, pickle spear, tomato, sport peppers, sprinkled with celery salt. Topped with neon green relish. This was piled high with toppings and one of my favorites.

Cincinnati style chili dog: chopped onion, shredded cheddar cheese, Cincinnati chili. Ohio natives will surely find this their go-to choice.

Polish Sausage: kraut, mustard, grilled onions. This was definitely my favorite with the slightly larger dog that was perfectly cooked and juicy. And I love a good sauerkraut and the sweet push of the grilled onions.
Italian Hot Beef Sandwich on an Italian style roll served wet, dry or dunked. This is a great choice for people who just don’t like hot dogs. My preference is definitely the dunking sauce with extra napkins.

Turkey dog: choice of whatever toppings. The turkey dog was plump and delicious and a versatile choice as you can order it with whatever toppings you desire.

Available sides include crinkle-cut air fries, crinkle-cut truffle air fries (cooked in truffle oil), little warm White Cream Corn Pie, and warm Baked Beans and Peach Pie.

And Starnie’s serves up some first-rate desserts. They offer Chilo’s Cheesecake or Chilo’s Key Lime Pie (Chilo’s previously reviewed in the May-June PARADE). The cheesecake stands up high and is a firm but creamy New York style cheesecake that can rival any coming out of the east coast with that perfect touch of lemon tang. The key lime pie is absolutely addicting.

Starnie’s Hot Dogs is now open and had their ribbon cutting on Tuesday. They’re located in the same parking lot as Island Market at 5312 Padre Boulevard, Suite D, South Padre Island, Texas.. Call ahead at (956) 433-8064 for pick-up or take-out or just show up to place your order.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
