Stark deputy shoots, kills charging dogs, authorities say; owner cited

CANTON ‒ A Stark County sheriff’s deputy shot and killed two dogs on Sunday after they charged at him while he was responding to a call, authorities said.

The incident occurred after residents from the 2200 block of 22nd Street NE called to ask for help with two loose dogs.

The homeowners had been feeding the dogs, but after the dogs became aggressive toward them, they called for assistance, the Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. The Sheriff’s Office didn’t state the breed of the dogs.

The responding deputy spoke with the homeowners through their doorbell camera.

“During the interaction, the dogs charged at the deputy, cornering him between the home and the homeowner’s vehicle,” the release said. “In response, the deputy discharged his weapon, resulting in the deaths of both dogs.”

A check of the dogs’ microchips identified their owner, who was located several miles away. He said the dogs had been running loose since Saturday. He was cited for allowing dogs to be at large.

A spokeswoman for the Sheriff’s Office said that deputies on scene said that one of the dogs was a husky and the other appeared to be a pitbull mix.

The deputy who responded is assigned to the dog warden division. The homeowners called the dog warden to report the aggressive stray dogs.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
