Yoga enthusiasts will have an opportunity to do a few downward dog poses to help animals by participating in a unique yoga event on July 28.
Shores Yoga in St. Clair Shores is hosting a yoga fundraiser for I Heart Dogs Rescue and Animal Haven in Warren at the VFW Bruce Post. The Silent Disco Yoga event will allow participants to stream music and the yoga teacher’s instructions through headphones.
“It creates a unique experience because you can really focus on the music and the yoga because you’ve got the headphones on and there are no distractions,” said Shores Yoga owner Lindsey Siehda.
The event will also feature local DJ Spaceship Earth and volunteers from I Heart Dogs will be there will be baked goods and refreshments for sale with all proceeds going to the rescue.
“We will have yoga, some freestyle dance and we plan to close with a community circle and medication,” said Siehda.
There will not be any dogs at the event, but participants are encouraged to check out the adoptable dogs and cats at iheartdogs.org.
“There are a few students at the studio that volunteer at I Heart Dogs and we have done a lot of events with them – puppy yoga and things like that,” said Siehda. “It is a great cause and it is going to be a lot of fun.”
You don’t have to be a seasoned yoga student to participate; the event runs from 2-3:30 p.m. July 28 and is open to people ages eight and up. The cost is $35.
“We have it set up so that people can linger and enjoy being by the water,” Siehda said. “We have a goal of getting at least 100 people to participate and help a local shelter that does great work in the community.”
