The St. Augustine Humane Society is providing dog-training demonstrations and pet CPR training, along with free hot dogs, on April 26
The event, called Hot Diggity Dog Day, runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the St. Augustine Humane Society, 1665 Old Moultrie Road.
“Enjoy face painting, dog training workshops, free hot dogs, and a chance to win a $200 gift certificate to Columbia Restaurant,” Jordan Schipper, the Humane Society’s development director, said in a press release. “Admission is free, and event proceeds go directly toward caring for pets in need.”
With more than 50 years of dog trainer experience and more than 40 of those years spent with K9 Units, dog trainer Joey Romer will lead an obedience workshop from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the release said. The demonstrations will provide dog owners guidance for obedience and behavior challenges.
David Slemp of First Coast Lifesaving will conduct a Pet First Aid and CPR workshop from 1 to 2 p.m. Other activities include an American Kennel Club Fetch trial by the German Shepherd Dog Club, a group obedience demonstration by Smart Paws Training, plus a meet-and-greet session with St. Johns County Sheriff’s Officer Melanie Merritt and Daisy, from 10 to 11 a.m.
The VFW Veterans Food Wagon, Sweet Emmaline’s Cheesecake, and face painting and glitter tattoos by St. Augustine’s favorite clowns, Skittles and Sweet Tart the Clowns will also be available.
