Speeding car kills 12 sheep, two dogs in Coimbatore

COIMBATORE: As many as 12 sheep and two dogs died and a shepherd and 10 other sheep suffered injuries when a speeding car hit them on the Vilankurichi Road in Coimbatore city in the early hours of Friday. The accident happened at Kalaivani Nagar around 3 am. The driver did not stop the car. The traffic investigation wing of the Coimbatore city police formed a team to nab the driver.The sheep belonged to P Subramaniam, 47, of Pappampatti in the district. He was rearing 500 sheep, police said. Ravi, 60, of Neikkarapatti near Palani in Dindigul district and four others were taking the sheep to Athipalayam for grazing when the accident happened. On being alerted by other motorists, the police rushed to the spot. They sent Ravi to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for treatment. The injured sheep were sent to a nearby veterinary hospital. The carcasses of the sheep were handed over to the owner.
