The Rockingham-Harrisonburg Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals report the recovery of several dogs from an abandoned Broadway property.
Law enforcement confirmed early Friday that the owner of the property is deceased.
The dogs were left behind and were found in what was described as unimaginable conditions.
Many of the animals were found suffering from serious health issues like tapeworms, parasites, and mange.
Authorities were able to rescue 42 of the most critically ill and injured dogs who are now receiving care.
The Rockingham Harrisonburg SPCA are searching for additional dogs at large.
The organization is struggling to meet the financial needs in taking care of these animals.
The SPCA reminds citizens that Have a Heart Fund is always available for donations and depends on the support of the community now more than ever.
The most critical things needed right now are foster homes and funds.
Support in the immediate future is critical in helping these dogs survive and all donations will go to their care.
The Rockingham Harrisonburg SPCA will continue to update the recovery effort.
