Some owners losing beloved pets to pack of dogs in Chickasaw

The video on Tina Haygood’s phone shows a black and white cat walking into a driveway.

Moments later, that cat would be killed by a pack of dogs.

It’s something that happened the night of July 4th in Chickasaw, just outside of the scope of a security camera.

But it is a heartbreaking example of a problem that has gotten out of hand in Chickasaw, says this woman.

“I want the dogs caught. I want all the dogs caught that are running around.”

And Tina should know.

Her cat was also attacked and brutally killed by dogs…. inside her own home!

“I’ve cried,” she says. “I’ve asked God why? And every time I think about it… to know he suffered! If you’d just seen what he looked like! His mouth was ripped off. Chunks of him were missing. They were all over the house. It was bad…”

Tina points to another video on her phone that shows all that remained of Tina’s cat, Tigger.

Tina was in the hospital when, she says, the dogs managed to get in through a door in her apartment that is difficult to close.

Now, though her mobility is limited, she tries to watch over her other cat to make sure it doesn’t meet the same fate, and has taken to a Chickasaw internet community page to warn others, and in hopes something will be done.

“And everybody has posted back, they’ve killed their cats,” she says, her voice cracking. “A lady said they beheaded her cat in her back yard.”

Facebook posts on that Chickasaw community web site indicate these are not isolated cases.

The video Tina mentioned at the beginning of this story was taken by a neighbor of Tina’s who allowed her to share it with NBC 15 News.

That neighbor came home to the disturbing sight the dogs still in the yard with what was left of the cat.

Now, neighbors are posting photos of dogs they see roaming their yards… some posting equally heartbreaking stories about the killings of their own pets.

“And everybody has posted back, saying they’ve killed their cats. One lady posted they beheaded her cat in the back yard.”

Tina says a while back, she started noticing several feral cats in the neighborhood with injuries and began trying to care for them, catching some, getting them tagged and released…. some, she says were able to be adopted.

But now she believes both pet and feral cats in the neighborhood are at risk because of the roaming dogs, who seem to do their deadly deeds at night. She says the dogs have tried to come through her back door two other times but she stopped them.

Tina is hoping the city will recognize the problem is out of hand and crack down on existing leash laws.

she worries the problem could become even more sinister.

“I’m afraid …because there’s a lot of children out here and they love to play with the cats, that they’re gonna pick a cat up and the dogs are gonna come after them. Because they’re on a rampage, they are. They’re killing constantly and it’s getting worse.”

A few years ago, Chickasaw did strengthen their leash laws.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
