After a stretch of rainy weather, families stretched their legs for the Portland Sea Dogs Mother’s Day 5K.This was the 23rd year they’ve held the event, and organizers say more than 1,500 runners and walkers took part.The money raised benefits the American Cancer Society to support breast cancer patients in Maine.Slugger and his Mom led the race and were available for photos afterward.The race starts in front of the Portland Expo building, takes a loop through Deering Oaks Park, and finishes on Hadlock Field.Kids also got in on the fun with a free Kids Run which took place beforehand.Top finishers received a trophy and a pair of 2025 season tickets. Everyone who took part also gets one free ticket to a future Sea Dogs game.Sunday, at 1 p.m. the Sea Dogs play against the Chesapeake Baysox. The team will be wearing their pink jerseys in honor of breast cancer awareness.
