Slugger The Sea Dog Speaks For The First Time

This is some pretty epic stuff here! If I’m not mistaken, I don’t think we’ve ever heard Slugger the Sea Dog speak. That all changed on March 19, when the Portland Sea Dogs announced they would become the Maine Candlepins for one day only at Haldock Field.

The Maine Candlepins

In a press release from the Portland Sea Dogs, they announced that on the August 2 game against the Altoona Curve at Delta Dental Park at Hadlock Field. For that game, the Portland Sea Dogs will become the Maine Candlepins, after the uniquely New England sport of candlepin bowling.

After coming up with other one-time alternate names for the Portland Sea Dogs each year always being food, this time they went a different way, and honestly, I like it.

Slugger Goes Bowling and Speaks!

When I watched this video posted by the Portland Sea Dogs shot at the Big 20 Bowling Center in Scarborough, I did a double take when Sluggers sends a ball down the alley, gets a strike, and then celebrates using his voice! In all the years the Sea Dogs have been playing baseball in Maine, I’ve never heard a peep out of Slugger. Maybe I’m wrong, but I think this is the only time he’s ever spoken and it was out of pure excitement for throwing a strike.

This is epic. Slugger has a voice! It may not be what I expected it to sound like, but so what? He talks! Sort of.

If you see him at Hadlock Field for the debut of the Maine Candlepins and get a chance to say hi to him, just don’t be surprised if he’s very friendly and gives you a high five, but doesn’t say anything.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
