SLED: Two Sumter men charged after injured, malnourished dogs found in woods

Investigators say on March 26th, while searching a wooded area off of Goodson Rd. in Sumter, officers found 27 pit bulls tied up with logging chains.

Sumter, S.C. (WOLO)– Investigators with SLED say Justin Rhodes, 35 and Fuqron Nelson, 38 are both charged with two counts of Conspiracy and four counts of Ill Treatment of Animals.

Investigators say on March 26th, while searching a wooded area off of Goodson Rd. in Sumter, officers found 27 pit bulls tied up with logging chains.

SLED investigators say some of the animals had open wounds and others had significant scarring.

Investigators say the dogs were lacking in necessary food and water.
