Sit. Stay. Good boy: Reno man opens dog training franchise

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – A Reno native has just started an in-home dog training franchise, using his love of dogs to help others.

When Chris Bergman, Owner of Dog Training Elite Reno, decided to become an entrepreneur, the self-proclaimed dog lover felt it was a no-brainer to help our four-legged friends and their parents.

“Everybody wants their perfect dog, but then the universe gives you the one that you get,” said Bergman.

To make sure the dogs are most comfortable, Bergman will come into the home to teach anything from basic obedience, all the way to service dog training.

“There’s boundaries in life. We have boundaries, their handlers have boundaries, so teaching those dogs what those boundaries are and teaching them to live within them, is really the whole thing. They’re going to be dogs, they’re going to mess up, but helping them learn when they’ve been successful and celebrating those moments, that’s it, that’s what it’s about,” Bergman said.

To showcase his skills, Bergman uses his 3-year-old pit bull, Leroy, as an example. Bergman will say that since the training just started two months ago, Leroy is a work in progress. But, that seems modest considering Leroy can do all the major commands like sit, stay, and shake. But, most impressively, can paddle board.

“I’d say he’s like every other dog. I just want him to be a good pet and comfortable in his own skin so he can navigate this cool world,” said Bergman.

Before Leroy came around, Bergman had the opportunity to live in the Czech Republic. It was there that he had three pit bulls who would ride on public transport with him and even had their own EU passports. Bergman will tell you that was one of his proudest achievements training those dogs.

Now that he’s back stateside, Bergman is ready and excited to train the dogs in his hometown of Reno, Nevada. He even does free consultations to get folks started which you can sign up for here.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
