CHEROKEE, Iowa (KTIV) – An organization is working to bring hope to women in need.
“Handbags With Hope” is putting together bags full of toiletries and giving them to women who are struggling with abuse and addiction. Those handbags are then donated to different organizations throughout the state. Inside the handbags are things like toothbrushes, deodorant, soap and other basic necessities to help them stay clean, and bring them some hope.
“All of those things that are needed that we need as human beings just to stay clean and feel alive and to feel like we belong and are a part of. Not to feel hopeless and helpless so this is part of what this is all about just to bring life to someone who feels lifeless and helpless,” said Tamerra Henderson with Handbags with Hope.
As the organization helps more women, they need more donations.
“What we’re doing as our ministry is to give to those in need and we need more donations, definitely more toiletries without a doubt we need more toiletries as much as possible. More deodorant, more soap yeah we need a lot of things,” added Henderson.
Donations can be dropped off at First Church of Christ, in Cherokee, Iowa. The items they need include:
- Toothbrushes
- Toothpaste
- Mouthwash
- Deodorant
- Pads
- Tampons
- Lotion
- Body wash/soap
- Shampoo
- Conditioner
