CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – Tracie Gutknect isn’t a professional artist.
In fact, she’s works in health care, but that doesn’t stop her from creating – in her own words – poorly-drawn pet portraits.
They’re far from perfect, but they’re helping Dogs Forever, a Cedar Rapids animal shelter, continue to provide care.
”We’re all obsessed with our pets. So maybe it’s just we just can’t deny that any kind of picture of our pet is going to be fun. “
Tracie is one of several volunteer artists for Dogs Forever’s Poorly-Drawn Dog Portrait Fundraiser.
As of Thursday, dozens of people have submitted donations along with pictures of their furry friends, some of which Tracie will draw.
Dogs Forever’s Fundraising Committee Lead, Crystal Ellis, says while the concept is silly, it has a serious impact on the shelter and the dogs they serve.
And because Dogs Forever – a nonprofit, 100% volunteer shelter – takes in animals constantly from shelters across the country, that demand for funding never goes away.
Tracie says that’s why she wanted to draw in the first place.
”As a dog person, it’s amazing and I would adopt all the dogs if I could. I don’t have the room nor the resources to do that, and so, supporting somebody that’s able to help as many dogs as they can is great. “
