WELLINGTON, Fla. (CBS12) — Dropping a designer-labelled handbag with your I.D. card in it may not be the best idea when running from deputies. A shoplifting suspect appears to have learned that the hard way after she allegedly tried stealing hundreds of dollars-worth of merchandise from a Wellington mall.
According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO), a deputy was patrolling the Mall at Wellington Green shortly after 1 p.m. on Wednesday when a security officer reported a theft from the mall’s Macy’s store.
When the deputy arrived, a loss prevention officer (LPO) explained that a woman went into the department store and grabbed nearly $650 worth of items. The suspect did not have that stuff long, however, according to the PBSO statement.

The statement from the Sheriff’s Office did not indicate if deputies have arrested anyone in connection with the attempted theft.
